From Software does what it does incredibly well, and Elden Ring is the most extensive and refined version of the formula.

You wander through a land of gods that has slowly collapsed into corruption and decay. You’ll face horrible monsters, look for secrets, and find out some of the player messages exist to try and bait you into jumping off cliffs. Liar ahead.

Now this isn’t your traditional third-person run around type of open world game, but post apocalyptic sci fi epic Kenshi is perfect for running around and engaging in every criminal activity you have the stats for. It’s a huge world of non-scripted interactions as factions fight, monsters eat people, and robots try to steal your skin.

Build a city, start a drug-running business, steal everything that’s not nailed down, or get murdered by a goat within the first ten minutes, the world is your oyster.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Save Up To 64%

Maybe the one with the most GTA things to do of the list. This CD Projekt Red title based on the gritty tabletop game is all about living your life on the edge of the law in a grimy hypercapitalist future. The story is great, though just wandering around Night City and getting into trouble can be just as entertaining.
