Permafrost Roadmap Details Upcoming Updates for Wintery Survival Game

Permafrost is the latest release of games and other media that explore a frozen over, post apocalyptic Earth (think also of Snowpiercer, and Frostpunk) almost as if while we're burning up our world, we can't stop thinking about the possibility of the opposite. With the Permafrost release, we also get a Permafrost roadmap telling us what we can expect in the next while for this early access survival game.

What's in the Permafrost Roadmap?

We begin the Permafrost roadmap with update 1 that will feature a mixture of quality of life features, early responses to feedback, and a lot more. This update will also include a combat animation overhaul, which according to the developers will give every strike more weight. The update will also improve fast travel across the Permafrost map (check out our Permafrost interactive map to know where you're going!), an expanded loot system, and new gear like armor and guns. There will also be new content added to the map like chests, and enhanced visuals for the world and weather.

The second Permafrost update will be adding improved weapon crafting, and new sidequests as a primary focus. With weapon parts brought into crafting the goal is to allow players to make more weapons themselves. There will be two new guns added to game, a key weapon type for the game as you advance in it. Guns unlock in a few different ways in Permafrost, and this will add more variety to them. The sidequests will flesh out the story some, and visuals of the world will also be worked on.

Update 3 will bring in more guns, but also bring in a new weapon/tool combination in the sledgehammer. This item will let you destroy obstacles and other destructible objects during your exploration. Those obstacles will include new environment destructibles as well just in time for the sledge to break em up. This update will also bring more weather effects to Permafrost.

The biggest Permafrost update detailed is probably update 4 with an area and story expansion called White Hell. This brings in a new biome, and it will have distinct locations, new enemies and it's own story. There will of course be new quests here, along with a new type of torch as a light source, new guns, and other new craftable items. As seems to be the case for each of these updates there will also be enhanced visuals - this time for both the world and weather.
