A free Pokemon fan game called PokeBonk brings Megabonk-style horde survival to Kanto, letting players battle wild Pokemon, collect upgrades, and evolve their partners directly in a browser.
Megabonk’s survival formula revolves around fighting waves of enemies, collecting experience, and choosing upgrades that make your character increasingly powerful. PokeBonk adapts that approach into a 3D Pokemon game built around the original region’s creatures.
Creator Charcher introduced the project on October 14, explaining in Spanish that it draws heavily from Megabonk’s world mechanics, particularly its use of vertical space, while incorporating familiar Pokemon systems.
PokeBonk adds evolutions and clan competition to horde survival
Players can enter as a guest without creating an account, then choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle as their first partner. The game’s website advertises all 151 Kanto Pokemon, alongside evolutions, Ultimate abilities, and League unlocks.
During a run, players move through a 3D arena as enemies close in and their Pokemon attacks automatically. Leveling up presents upgrade cards that can introduce another move, strengthen an existing attack, or provide a vitamin to improve their build.
There are different structures to choose from, too. Classic mode’s preparation screen describes zones, guardians, and a shrine, while Survival focuses on endless hordes and milestones.
Charcher also highlighted the clan system in the announcement thread. Members compete collectively by combining their best runs, with individual rankings available alongside leaderboards for maps, global scores, and an endless mode.
The creator initially requested player feedback for a weeklong balancing beta. Elsewhere in the thread, Charcher disclosed using AI tools during development and described PokeBonk as a nonprofit fan project.
