After years of Early Access and Game Preview, the wait is finally over. Valheim has officially reached its full 1.0 release, giving Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC players the chance to experience Iron Gate’s Viking survival adventure in its completed form.
Set within a procedurally generated world inspired by Norse mythology, Valheim throws players into the Tenth World with a simple objective – survive, grow stronger and prove yourself worthy of Odin. Whether you tackle that challenge alone or alongside friends, there’s a sizeable Viking adventure waiting to be uncovered.

Explore the Tenth World
Valheim’s procedurally generated world is split into distinct biomes, each bringing its own resources, enemies and dangers. Exploration is a major part of the experience, with players able to head into forests, mountains and across the open seas in search of new materials and lands.
That sense of discovery works particularly well when playing with friends, with support for up to ten players. You can work together to establish a settlement, venture out in search of resources or simply see what happens when everyone decides to sail in the same direction.
Build, Craft and Prepare for Battle
Survival is about more than simply staying alive. Gathering materials unlocks new crafting options, allowing you to create weapons, equipment, food and increasingly elaborate structures.
Building is a particularly important part of the Viking lifestyle. You can construct anything from a modest shelter to a sprawling longhouse or fortified settlement, with structural integrity and defence both playing a role in your designs.
Food also ties into combat, with different meals providing health and stamina benefits. Choosing what to eat can therefore be just as important as deciding which weapon to take into battle.
The Forsaken Await
The Tenth World isn’t going to let you settle in peacefully. Powerful regional bosses known as the Forsaken stand between you and further progression, providing some of Valheim’s biggest challenges.
You’ll need to hone your combat skills and craft increasingly powerful equipment before taking them on. Axes, blades and bows are among the tools at your disposal, while careful preparation can mean the difference between victory and another long journey back to your belongings.
A Long-Awaited Full Release
Xbox players have already been able to experience Valheim through Game Preview, with our previous hands-on coverage finding plenty to enjoy in its combination of survival, exploration and Viking adventure. We noted that it had the potential to become an “afternoon destroyer” and praised how well the Xbox version translated the previously PC-focused experience to console.
We also covered Valheim’s Xbox and Game Pass arrival back in 2023, marking the beginning of its console adventure.
Now, after years of development, that journey reaches its 1.0 milestone.
Time to Become a Viking
Valheim has plenty to offer whether you’re interested in building an enormous Viking settlement, exploring an unpredictable world, battling the Forsaken or simply seeing how long you can survive alongside your friends.
The full 1.0 release is the perfect excuse to finally step into the Tenth World – and with ten-player support, there’s little reason for your Viking saga to be a solitary one.
Sharpen your axe, prepare the longship and raise a tankard. Valheim is finally ready for the next chapter.
